1.8. Become a Certified test administrator

1.8. Become a Certified test administrator 1

Who can and who should take this course?

This course is for teachers (all levels), including early years teachers, specialist teachers (SENCO or SENDCO), speech therapists, counsellors, educational psychologists, and others with similar expertise.

The work itself can be divided amongst staff. For example, Dysmate-certified users working in schools (e.g., teaching staff) might conduct the screening tests, while Dysmate-certified SENCO or SENDCO users (or similar) can conduct follow-up tests for further assessment and diagnosis.

What will you learn in this course?

The Dysmate tests allow you to identify an individual’s risk of dyslexia with confidence: the tests are scored automatically and as part of this certification course, you will learn how to interpret the test results.

You will also learn about dyslexia and about the difference between dyslexia and reading comprehension disorders.

Equally importantly, you will learn what the Dysmate tests actually measure and why, and how to interpret and act upon the results. The certification course is based on the most up-to-date scientific evidence.

What can you do once you have completed the certification course?

For people who are not qualified to provide a formal diagnosis:

You can conduct the screening and identify individuals who are likely to be at high risk of having dyslexia. Then, in combination with your own observations, you can use the results to help determine the need for further assessment.

For people who are qualified to provide a formal diagnosis:

You can use your interpretation of the screening test results to determine the need for further assessment. In the context of adolescents and adults (i.e., from secondary school age and upwards) we recommend that you conduct the Dysmate Follow-up Test. The follow-up test takes about 15 minutes to complete and must be conducted face to face, with the test administrator and the individual present in the same room. The follow-up test provides an extensive overview of the individual’s profile, including decoding and spelling skills, as well as the cognitive-linguistic markers of dyslexia.

How long does it take to complete the certification course?

The whole web course takes three hours to complete. You will be able to access the course materials for 30 days once your access is activated. In order to pass the course and obtain a certificate, you will need to complete a series of quizzes following the videos and answer 80% of the questions correctly.

If needed, you can always review the materials and retake the tests.

Once you have obtained your certificate, you will receive a free one-month trial license (for the child or adolescent or adult level tests). The trial license includes two free tests. These two tests are intended to familiarise the user with the interface and functionality.

Once you have used these two free tests, or at the end of the free trial period, you will need to sign up for a full license in order to obtain and use further tests.

Dysmate´s vision is that "Every individual with reading disorder is recognised and supported"

Dysmate provides trusted research-based tools to detect reading disorder in order to enable individuals to reach their full potential.
